Pedaling with Purpose: Our 70 km Ride to Kampong Phluk & Support Pagna Cambodia Education Fund
Last week, Siem Reaper Team witnessed more than just a cycling event. It was a celebration of spirit, a test of endurance, and, most importantly, a journey of giving. Our team, along with passionate riders, embarked on a 70 km cycling challenge to Kampong Phluk—not just for adventure, but to support education and community-based tourism. This purposeful act aimed to support education for underprivileged children in Cambodia through the Pagna Cambodia Education Fund (PCEF).
More Than Just a Ride
From the moment we set off, it was clear that this journey would test not only our physical endurance but also our mental grit. The route spanned a variety of terrains—from dry, dusty red roads and remote village paths to bumpy and muddy challenges. Puddles splashed, bikes skidded, shoes squelched, and hearts raced.
But every rider pressed on, fueled not just by adrenaline, but by a shared mission.
The Siem Reaper team, known for its strong community spirit and expert local knowledge, was there every step of the way—offering encouragement, sharing stories, and ensuring everyone was safe and smiling. We were more than just a cycling group; we were a community on wheels.
The Spirit of the Ride
One of the most moving aspects of this event was the sense of togetherness. Strangers quickly became teammates. Whenever someone slowed down or faced a tough stretch, another was there with a word of encouragement, a shared laugh, or a helping hand. There was no race against time—only a shared commitment to reach Kampong Phluk together.
And while the physical challenge was real—under the midday sun, with muscles aching and jerseys soaked through—the atmosphere remained joyful and determined. The countryside rolled by in scenic waves: palm-fringed fields, quiet villages, and curious children waving and cheering as we passed. It was a reminder of the beauty of Cambodia and the deep warmth of its people.
Destination: Kampong Phluk
After hours of cycling, the sight of Kampong Phluk appeared on the horizon like a well-earned reward. This fascinating floating village, where homes rest on towering stilts and boats replace bicycles, marked the end of our ride. More than that, it marked the culmination of a journey that was about more than kilometres—it was about impact.
Upon arrival, tired but elated, we gathered for a humble ceremony to reflect on our purpose. With pride, we made a collective donation to the Pagna Cambodia Education Fund (PCEF).
Giving Back: Supporting Pagna Cambodia Education Fund (PCEF)
The highlight of our visit was presenting our donation to the Pagna Cambodia Education Fund (PCEF)—a community-based organisation dedicated to providing education, supplies, and life-changing support to children in rural Cambodia.
This wasn’t a symbolic gesture. It was a meaningful act of solidarity.
Pagna, the founder of the fund, welcomed us warmly and shared heartfelt stories of the struggles many families face in affording even the most basic school needs—uniforms, books, and meals. In many cases, children drop out not because they lack potential, but because they lack the means.
Our contribution may not solve every problem, but it creates a ripple. It buys books, supports a school programme, and brings encouragement to students who dream of a better future.
And more than that—it tells them, you are not forgotten. People from across Cambodia and beyond are standing behind them, believing in their dreams.
Why We Ride: The Role of Responsible Travel
At Siem Reaper Travel, we believe travel should be a force for good. It’s not just about seeing new places—it’s about connecting with local communities, supporting social causes, and being mindful of the impact we leave behind.
The 70 km challenge is one of the many ways we strive to turn this philosophy into action. Our tours focus on sustainability, cultural exchange, and giving back—whether through visits to local farms, supporting ethical businesses, or organising events like this one.
We don’t want guests to be just travellers. We want them to become advocates, friends, and changemakers.
